...celebrating the convergence of games, art, and music.

.HBC, SPA and WMF, Berlin

With A MAZE. Interact ...celebrating the convergence of games, art and music, the increasing convergence of computer games and music will be demonstrated and discussed through an international festival. Especially technology, interaction and performance provide surprising parallels for games and music – although process and result of the experiences may look very different on the surface. Play forms the intersection that wants to be explored.

About Games Culture Circle

Kontrollbon — Fri, 01 Jan 2010 13:10:55 +0000

Games Culture Circle will feature artists, game designers, performers, film directors and other players on the contemporary media and arts scene, who will discuss digital games culture in an interdisciplinary setting. Andreas Lange, director of the Computerspielemuseum Berlin, is our resident expert who will contribute his knowledge and experience to the debate.

Game Culture Circle is explicitly not an academic format but focuses on the exchange of experiences, opinions, and visions. We are interested in games, the people who play them, and the emotions they elicit.

thorsten — Wed, 11 Apr 2012 08:07:33 +0000

1378 (km), through the medium of the computer game, allows for an immersive and interactive journey into sections of the inner-German border in the year 1976. There are two parties in the game, the first being the East German Border Guards, and second being the East German Refugees. The objective of the refugees is to get over the death strip to flee to West Germany. The objective of the border guards is to prevent that refugees cross the border. At first glance the serious game 1378(km) appears to be an ordinary first-person shooter, which is due to the fact that it is based on one.

A MAZE. Indie Connect Keynote by Cactus

thorsten — Wed, 11 Apr 2012 07:20:27 +0000

A few years ago games like “Braid”, “Everyday Shooter” and “flOw” created an awareness among the public that independtly developed games could be something very special. Through innovation and uniqueness the indie scene started to grow and made a place for itself in the games industry. Discussions went rampant about whether games could be considered an artform or not, and developers were talking about the evolution and maturing of our medium. It was truly a time of inspiration. Since then hits like “Minecraft” have shown that indies are even able to compete with mainstream productions in terms of audience. But what are the consequences of gaining such success? Where are we heading now and why?

As game designers and critics, we have an ethical responsibility to examine the ways that coersion makes itself manifest in interactive games. We must understand how the seductive power of challenge, of action, of micro-worlds, and of goals “without consequence” in fact may have heavy impact indeed.

A MAZE. proudly presents Spirits

thorsten — Wed, 10 Nov 2010 22:56:19 +0000

Spirits is an innovative action-puzzle game that won the “Best Aesthetics” Award at this year’s IndieCade festival and has been selected for the Sense of Wonder Night at the Tokyo Game Show.

In Spirits players need to find creative solutions to guide a set number of spirits towards the goal. The spirits can be used to manipulate wind, dig tunnels and build bridges of leaves. Sound and music are done completely with orchestral musical instruments. In combination with the beautifully hand-drawn graphics this gives the game a unique poetic feel.

The game is available today for the iPad for $4.99. A version for iPhone and iPod touch including Retina Display support will follow later this year.
